Headache journal : Bout of headaches
Dec 12, 2007
Chronic headaches are banal in my life lately. Any given week has simply two 0r three bouts of headache. which starts as early as 6 o clock in the morning with a slight pain in the rear head and temples. As the day progresses not only does the severity of the pain increases but the area of coverage of the pain spreads to many parts of the head. I cannot perform well in any of my daily activities such as eating, drinking, walking, driving or watching TV. One and only task I can do (and must do) is to rest - and that too as much as possible - at least 6 hours.
I am a person who relies on natural ways to cure the pain and who refrains from visiting a doctor for reasons that are simply solvable with little thought and that are not life-threatening. As a result, during the course of two years of suffering constant pain, I tried to decipher the possible reasons for the headache. I analyzed various conditions that lead to and contributed to the pain and tried to work around those conditions to stay away from pain. Here are few conditions that I find have contributed to headache -
1) Lack of sleep
2) Stress
3) Dehydration
4) Stale food
5) Microwaving food
6) Diet with lots of meat, few vegetable and few fruits
7) Excessive work on high resolution computer screens
8) Excessive TV
I changed my lifestyle to have more sleep and to rest more in a day. I stopped having stale food (or refrigerated food). I am also in the process of avoiding microwaving the food as much as possible. The biggest improvement, and more relevant to the cause of headaches, I made is to have lots of water in a given day. I still have to analyze the results of this change.
I will keep this journal up-to-date by adding more information as and when I find it is related to headaches. Today is Dec 12, 2007 and I hope to find more reasons and more solutions to curing the pain without consuming medication or visiting a doctor.
Update - Monday Jan 14, 2008:
Finally I am able to restrict the frequency of headaches. The past week, ended Jan 13, I was struck only once - on sunday - by the mighty headache, which did not last for more than 5 hours - compared to earlier attacks that lasted at least 12 hours.
Okay, here is what that worked and working for me to keep away from nasty HAs.
1) No refrigerated food. Not even food that is a day's old in the refrigerator.
2) No stale food whatsoever. I completely stopped cooking food with items that were frozen for weeks - something like more than 2 weeks.
3) Keep bowel system clean. How you do it is up to you. I use weekends for this activity. Eat high intensity spicy food that will agitate your stomach and aid in triggering a bowel collapse. For the next two days you will be a valuable customer for your restroom.
4) Remove toxins from your body - Lever accumulates toxic substances, a concept that I got acquainted with after reading few articles, and eliminates them from the body. In cases where liver does not function properly, Step #3 is one way to eliminate toxic substances. One other way is to eliminate them orally. Early in the morning, after brushing your teeth, a little stimulation of inner-tongue by touching with hand or a tongue-cleaner will push the toxic contents from inside your stomach out of the body. Mind you, this stimulation process is neither easy nor friendly.
Update - Thursday Jan 17, 2008:
Survived 2 mini bouts of HAs in the last few days. Again the steps I followed are the same that I described above - no refrigerated food, no stale food and some extra sleep.
Update - Monday Jan 22, 2008
Again it was on a Sunday that I was paralyzed by this recurring HA. Reasons are not clear yet. I did not have any stale food nor did I use any refrigerated food for cooking.
The day started perfect. I woke up fresh as a flamingo around 8.30 AM. My bowels were not as satisfactory as they usually are. I did not worry that much though as I could catch up on that aspect any time on the holiday.
I skipped breakfast as I planned for a wonderful running and stretching session in the shiny sun. I had to include laundry in to the to do list as I missed washing my clothes the previous day.
I had a nice time running in the sun. I returned home at 12.30 PM quite hungry and thirsty after a good work out. I had a banana as a quick breakfast and got busy preparing lunch. It was not until 2.00 PM I was able to start having my lunch. I guess that was an issue. My body might have been waiting for a long time for nourishment. Not only was this factor important but my zealous eating resulting in a over capacitated body might have caused issues too. In other words, I had a big lunch and that might have strained my body.
Around 5.30 PM when my body was still digesting food, a strong jolt hit the back of my head. Of course, it was the beginning of new session of head ache. My body was tired too, from trying to assimilate the strong food (sambar and omelet) that I had only at 2.00 PM. I had to rest for an hour hoping for better things after the rest. For an hour till 7.00 PM after the rest, my body was ok. Only after 7.00 PM did things started going downhill. The intensity of HA increased. I did not have any dinner but an orange and went to sleep at 9.00 PM. My head was pounding even in the sleep. I was woken up by a strong stint at 10.00 PM and forced to use the restroom and to empty part of my stomach. My body felt a little burden shredded. I went to sleep was woken a little fresh at 1.00 AM. By morning, I was feeling ok.
Bottom line - there are other reasons for headache. From this experience, I feel the reasons are improper bowel moments and excessive fasting of the body. When hungry, it is better to eat less than over filling the stomach.
Update - Monday June 16, 2008:
It's been almost five months I made an update to this post.
Yes, you guessed it - I had been either too busy or I had never (or very few) HAs. Fortunately, this time, it is the second choice - I had very few attacks of the deadly head ache.
All these months, I observed that my head ache was simply due to toxicity in the body, a problem that was caused either due to bad food or bad sleeping habits. Whenever I had stale food (even if the food was just a day old, my body marked it as stale), I exhausted my body too much or took time off from sleeping for other activities, I had to prepare for some suffering (and a night's sorrow sleep).
During these 5 months I had only 4-5 instances of head ache. That's a good deal, compared to 4-5 times a week. I am glad I found the underlying reasons for my headache.
Even today I try to keep my body clean from toxins by eating good food, sleeping well and cleaning the internals of my body regularly. You may wonder how I clean my internal body - it's simple and in 2 ways - attend to nature calls regularly and remove bile juices from body. I remove the bile juice by agitating the uvula area, a process which forces out liquids directly from the stomach area (don't know exactly from where!)
As I said in the beginning of this post, I refrain from using ANY (I repeat any) kind of medication and any kind of medical help. Simply put, I despise these medical cures for such a simple problem - albeit the problem can give some jitters when I encounter it. So far, I used ZERO, zilch medicines for this problem. And I consulted ZERO, nada doctors! Interesting, isn't it?
